Our Founder

Dr. Kathleen Besas is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, and Educator specializing in Women's Health. Dr. Besas has dedicated her career to educate and empower women to make informed decisions about their bodies and overall wellbeing. Her doctoral work focuses on supporting and advocating for equitable access to essential reproductive health services.

Beyond her professional title, Dr. Besas is a proud first-generation immigrant from Bohol, Philippines. Coming to America in pursuit of the "American Dream" did not come without hardship. Navigating a bi-cultural identity is complex and can feel very isolating.

Dr. Besas created She is Rooted and Rising (SRR) as an outlet of her creativity for she believes in the power of storytelling and even more so, in the power of community.

When we share, we feel seen, we feel heard, and we feel less alone in our struggles in this world. There is beauty in authenticity and there is power in sharing our collective truth.
